Tournament rules

Rules of Play & Code of Conduct (pdf)

Please note the NCAA Requirements for this tournament: (MANDATORY)

All of the steps below must be completed by 15U-17U boys’ teams in order to participate. Teams without approved coaches and rosters on the NCAA BBCS will not be allowed to participate in the NCAA-certified portion of this event.

Step 1 – Coaches obtain USA BBall Gold Licenses: Coaches of 15U-17U boys’ teams must obtain (or renew) a USA Basketball Gold Coach License with NCAA Status. This requirement applies to coaches, assistant coaches, and any bench personnel (non-players). If you obtained a USA Basketball Gold License in 2017, you must renew your license in order to coach in 2018. If you are applying for the first time, allow 3 weeks for processing. Renewals are quicker – just log into the USA Bball site to start the process. If you are applying for the first time, click here for detailed application instructions from USA Basketball. You will not be able to enter your rosters on the new BBCS website (step 2) until you complete this process. START EARLY!

Step 2 – Register on the new BBCS: ALL COACHES AND ATHLETES must create individual accounts on the all-new NCAA BBCS website https://BBCS.ncaa.org.  Only coaches who have completed the above Step 1 will be allowed to create accounts on the BBCS. Instructions for COACHES. Instructions for ATHLETES.

Step 3 – Build Your Team Roster: The head coach must then invite their assistant coaches and players to be on their roster through the BBCS website. Refer to the above link “Instructions for Coaches” to complete this step. Be aware of the Residency Rules (see page 217 of the ECAG User Manual).

REMINDER: Teams who have not completed all of the above steps WILL NOT be allowed to participate in the NCAA certified portion of the tournament. Players and coaches who do not appear on the Team Roster in the BBCS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to participate.

Note:

A player can participate in a maximum of two age/grade divisions and a maximum of two teams per tournament, as long as they meet the age/grade requirements for both divisions (except when noted below). They cannot play on two teams in the same age/grade division.

All players participating in bracket play must have participated in at least one of the team’s pool games.

During the NCAA recruiting periods, the rule is different: Because of the NCAA rule prohibiting players from playing more than 3 games per day, and 5 games in a rolling two-day period, players participating in the 15U through 17U/Varsity (NCAA certified) divisions can only play on one team and in one division during the entire event. A 15U-17U/Varsity player cannot play in two different age groups (including the non NCAA certified 9U-14U divisions) or the same age group during the tournament. If a team loses, a player cannot switch to another team still in competition.
